Cloud study

I recently finished up a landscape painting class at Greenspring Park in Alexandria through the VCU Off-Campus Grad School. We were blessed with great weather for the full two weeks of class. The last few posts are reflections of some of my completed work in acrylics created during this time.

Diptych on the rocks

A little inspiration from Munch

Edvard Munch, "Summer Night's Dream: the Voice" 1893

I couldn't have been more taken by surprise than I was upon entering the Munch show on exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago. I never thought that I would find inspiration in his use of color, in his deliberate brush strokes. I thought that I was prepared for what I was going to see, I was seriously mistaken. Most of his work is dark. However, it struck me more as haunting and familiar, rather  than anything disheartening or melancholy.

The world is on fire...a triptych
